Resort Municipality Initiative
Shaping Revelstoke’s Tourism Vision
Since being designated as one of British Columbia’s fourteen Resort Municipalities in 2007, Revelstoke has embarked on a journey of strategic tourism development, supported by the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funding since 2008. This initiative has been instrumental in enhancing tourism infrastructure and projects in line with the community’s vision and goals. A new Resort Development Strategy has been developed for 2025-2027 (see the link). The Resort Development Strategy (RDS) serves as a guiding document, detailing the plans for utilizing RMI funding to achieve broader provincial tourism outcomes.
The Impact of the Resort Development Strategy
Fostering a Year-Round, Diverse Tourism Experience
The RDS is more than a plan; it’s a reflection of Revelstoke’s commitment to evolving its tourism sector responsibly and sustainably. The strategy focuses on diversifying the tourism season, increasing visitation, and enhancing the overall sustainability and visitor experience. Key projects funded by the RMI program include the development of facilities like the Snowmobile Welcome Centre, expansion of mountain bike and nordic trails, and upgrading museum exhibits, multi-use pathways, Wayfinding signage, City park upgrades, visitor arrivals upgrades, resort shuttle services, Ambassador program, and many events. These initiatives not only enrich Revelstoke’s tourism offerings but also ensure that the benefits of tourism are felt throughout the community.
